The origin of poker is not quite clear on how it started but it is believed that it began on the early 1800s with the first game ever being played with a deck of 20 cards and four players somewhere in the USA. It is from this deck of cards that the game developed to a full 52-card English deck and became famous worldwide with the introduction of the World Series of Poker in the 1970s’.
How is online poker played?
There are a couple of things that you need to do before you can start to play poker online. Some of the things include the following;
The very first thing that you will require is a little money that you will use to bet. If you do not want to bet, the various online casino websites have you covered by offering you the play money option where you get to play for free though for a limited period.
Get to understand the lingo of poker. Since there are different words that are involved in the game, it is important to understand what each and every word means so that you can be able to play the game and enjoy it fully. The most common words include Ante, Fold, Check, Call, Raise, Bluff, Capped betting and so many more.
Get to know the various hands that are involved in the game. This can include “nothing”, pair, two pairs, three of a kind, Straight, Flush, Full House, Four of a kind, Royal Flush and Straight flush. When you understand hands, it will be very easy for you to play.
After understanding all this, place a bet by selecting the amount that you are comfortable with. This amount is usually placed in a pot after which the dealer will start dealing the cards face down starting with the player located immediately to his left in a clockwise way until you and every player has five cards. After that, the deck will be placed in the middle of the table.
After this, you and everyone else will have to look at your cards. Make sure that you evaluate your strong hand. The beginning players will usually end up showing how strong their hand is. In poker world, this is often known as a tell. Some tells will include shallow breathing, facial muscles flexes among many others. To increase your chances of winning, make sure that you keep your POKER FACE.
Once you have taken a look at your cards, you start making calls with the first player on the dealers left initiating the call. He/she can open (placing the first bet) or can check (passing the decision to the next player). Once the pot is open, you and the other players will have an option of either folding or making a call. After this, any other player who will still be in the game will have the option of raising or making a fold.
The above procedure is repeated until everyone has turned their cards to see who is the winner.
